Bill Hutchison, Kalmar Nyckel News
2/12/2010
PLEASE NOTE: The place of our February 12, 2010 meeting has been changed, and we will be meeting upstairs in the Lewes Public Library at 7:30 p.m., and NOT in St. Peter's Parish Hall. We will have the pleasure of hearing Bill ("Hutch") Hutchison, the Education Coordinator for the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation, update us on what is happening with Delaware’s tall ship. Hutch has been with the Kalmar Nyckel since 2003, and was recognized by their Foundation with the "Volunteer of the Year" award in 2006. He received a Masters of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware, and has spent many years in education as both a teacher and an administrator.
Mr. Hutchison will discuss the history of the building of the original Kalmar Nyckel in the 1620’s, its voyages to found the colony of New Sweden and the building of the re-creation of the ship which sails today as the Tall Ship of the State of Delaware. His presentation will also cover the ship’s sailing plans for the 2010 season and crew training opportunities which may include a crew training class in Lewes this summer. He will answer questions about the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation and how the public can participate in this exciting program.
As usual, the public is cordially invited to attend this meeting, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, please call Bob Gibson at (302) 645-0377.
